Spanish Water Dogs are a rare breed outside of their native homeland, so puppies are not readily available therefore prospective new owners must be prepared to wait for a suitable puppy, if you are not prepared to wait, then you could not have wanted one of these unusual, charismatic and intelligent dogs enough. In the UK you should expect to pay in the region of UK£800 for a KC registered SWD puppy, the price may be a little higher if the puppy has had its primary vaccination and is microchipped. In Zealand the price for a NZKC registered puppy from our kennel is currently $2200, this price includes primary vaccination and microchipping.

Spanish Water Dog puppies are very advanced for their age, more so than any other breed I have ever come across. By the time puppies are 7 weeks of age they are more than ready to flee the nest, by this age they require individual attention, stimulation and socialization.

It is highly recommended that you enroll your new puppy in a puppy training class or basic obedience class. Your new puppy can start to attend 1 week after the puppy has had its final vaccination injection, which is at about 13 weeks of age. Socializing your new puppy at this sort of class, interacting with unfamiliar people and their dogs will help the puppy to gain confidence and get used to the hustle and bustle of busy noisy places. The training will be as much benefit to you as it will be the puppy, as if you have not had a puppy before or if it has been a long time since you had a puppy in the household, then it is a great way to learn the best way forward with the basic training requirements. As and when your puppy gets older, you can then decide if you would like to continue, and if so you can take part in various other training classes at a higher level.
