Bearded Collies

Pebbles

The Bearded Collie is one of Britain's oldest breeds - it has also been known as the Highland Collie which was brought into Britain thousands of years ago. It is widely believed that central Asia was the birthplace of all the world's sheep, and so it is logical to assume that the dogs accompanied the old pastoral tribes as they migrated westwards. All those years ago the dogs were used to watch over the flocks and herd them, as they moved across Europe. The dogs travelled with the Iberians and Celts reached Britain and found a new home in the northern Scottish Highlands.

Tanza

Today, the Beardie is a valued sheepdog and drover. Although an attentive and industrious worker, they are also wonderful family pets and companions, they are happiest when they have something to do, Beardies love to take part in many activities, which include Agilty, Flyball, Obedience Training and swimming. Because they have the ability to bring joy and companionship, many beardies go on to be PAT dogs (Pets as Therapy) once they are old enough, and visit the elderley, ill or people with disabilities.

The Bearded Collie is a dog of almost over-powering friendliness, extremely active, boisterous, an expert in escapology. It is not a dog for the house proud or the fanatical gardener. But for anyone who is prepared to give it the exercise, training and to care for it's lovely coat, to put up with all the mud and sand that it will bring into the house and keep it stimulated and happy, there is no breed which will provide more faithful companionship or greater entertainment. You will have a friend for life in the Bearded Collie, and once you have a beardie you will never be without one.
