In May 2004 we moved to New Zealand, the land of the Kiwi. We have lived in the Waikato / Waitomo District which is in the centre of the North Island between Otorohanga and Te Kuiti for two years. On 2nd June 2006 we moved near Ngunguru in Whangarei, our new property is near the beautiful Tutukaka Coast.

How Pemontell originated
Beardies
My love for Beardies began many years ago, and in my search for a beardie I came across Monty, a cross beardie, at a rescue centre. It was love at first sight. After many months of tender loving care and lots of training, he blossomed into the most obedient, loving, charming friend I have ever had. And it is due to our wonderful friendship that I decided that I would like to get another beardie, a little girl. After much searching along came Ellen, a tiny brown and white fluff ball who ate all the skirting boards. A short while after that Pebble arrived, a black and white bundle of fluff who looked just like a panda, and with her my love for the breed was set in for life.
Unfortunately Monty passed away very suddenly
on Saturday 26th February 2000, and it was a great shock to me, his canine
companions and all who knew him. He really was an extra special little boy
who is sadly missed.

Spanish Water Dogs
My interest in Spanish Water Dogs started in 1989 when I lived in Southern Spain, this is where I first saw these terrific little dogs. I was intrigued by their super personalities, intelligence and magnificent corded coats, I had never come across a dog quite like them.
It was many years later that I came across an article in a Dog Newspaper about Water Dogs and amongst the breeds mentioned were Spanish Water Dogs. I read it with interest and remembered meeting these adorable dogs back in Spain many years previous, it was after this article that I was determined to look into the beed further and see if there were any Spanish Water Dogs in the UK. After much research I came across the Canagua Partnership who were four friends who first imported this lovely breed into the UK.
A telephone call was duly made to see if I could find out more information on the breed and availability of puppies. I received an informative booklet all about them and after reading it I was positively sure that this was the perfect breed for me and companion to my Beardies. I fully expected a very long wait for a puppy with them been so rare, waiting a while longer would not have been a problem. However, lucky for me, a litter had been born on 28th April 1996 and there were some puppies still available. To cut a long story short, Lucia, a gorgeous black and white Spanish Water Dog joined my family in the summer of 1996. Since then we have had puppies of our own and we have also imported new bloodlines from Europe. Little did I know back in 1989 that I would get so smitten with the breed and that one day I would own several of my own.

Our new dogs from Spain
In March 2002 we travelled to Southern Spain to collect Berni and Behison, our two new additions to our canine family. They were bred by Jose Garcia Perez of J.Macelia Kennels in Benaocaz, Southern Spain. Behison sired some superp puppies in the UK, he passed on his lovely nature, Spanish good looks and good confirmation to all of his puppies. Berni had one litter in the UK and has also had puppies here in New Zealand. Both Berni and Behison have given us so much joy over the years and have left their mark both in our hearts and in our breed line.

Our new dogs from Belgium
In July 2002 we travelled across to Belgium to collect out little Belgium boy, Azar from Peter Henderyckx from Del Pipa Casita Kennel. It was wonderful to be able to meet even more Spanish Water Dogs and we also go to go to the World Dog Show and see numerous Spanish Water Dogs in the show ring, which was just fantastic. Azar has sired some superb puppies both in the UK and here in New Zealand, everyone who has met him totally adores him, he is our special golden boy.
Two years later Cole came to join us at Pemontell from Del Pipa Casita Kennels in Belgium, he too has turned out to be an extremely adorable young man, who melts the heart of everyone he meets, we have been thrilled with Cole's puppies also and will be forerver in Peter's debt for letting us have these two super boys. The offspring of these two boys are the future of our kennels, they have passed on their good looks, great confirmation and awesome temperaments and we will forever love them both.
